GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must have reached the age of twenty-one (21) years; be a citizen of the United States, or be authorized to work in this country; be of good moral character; shall possess a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma; one (1) year of experience as a security guard. The incumbent shall be able to read, write, and speak the English language, and shall be certified by a licensed physician as physically and psychologically fit to perform the duties of a security guard. Must have the ability to successfully complete and pass all mandatory security guard requirements or qualified equivalent. An applicant who has been dishonorably discharged from the military shall be ineligible for all uniform positions and as a special investigator.
General Suitability Screening – Security Guard (Unarmed & Armed Positions)
This position is subject to general suitability screening; verification of employment history, education checks, reference checks, drug tests, criminal background check, and degree/license, as applicable. The appointee to the position may be offered employment contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory general suitability screening.
Enhanced Suitability Screening – (Special Police Officer, Patrol Officer, Surveillance Operator, Security Specialist, Executive Protection Specialist and Special Investigator)
The position for which the individual is applying has been identified and designated as requiring enhanced suitability screening; If selected for the position, general suitability screening, a criminal background check, social media, traffic record check, consumer credit check, and mandatory and random drug and alcohol test will be conducted (as appropriate); and the appointee to the position may be offered employment contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory enhanced suitability screening.
Working Conditions/Environment
The work requires constant mental attention as well as physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, up and down stairways, and lifting heavy items as needed or required. It also requires agility and dexterity with strength to protect life and property.
This position is part of a 24/7 operation and is subject to non-traditional work hours including rotating shifts, shift works, and working weekends and holidays.
Other Significant Factors
All armed positions require the applicant to successfully qualify with the use of a firearm and maintain all established requirements for carrying and using firearms, and following use of force guidelines in accordance with the respective jurisdiction (MD, DC & VA) laws, policies, procedures including State Metro Protective Service policies and procedures. Firearms qualification is mandatory as part of assigned duties.
